TOMATO/トマト

TOMATO/トマト

—Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Just a step away from the bustling streets, a small Western-style eatery named Tomato stands quietly. The place exudes the charm of an old-established restaurant.

—As I step inside, a nostalgic aroma of Western cuisine fills the air. I like places like this. Scanning the menu, my eyes land on Turkish Rice. It’s a hearty dish where a thin omelette rests on top of dry curry, with a crispy tonkatsu on top. A truly lavish plate. Well, I have no choice but to order it.

—Soon enough, the Turkish Rice arrives. A bed of dry curry topped with a thin omelette, and a perfectly crisp tonkatsu rests on top. The sight alone is enough to stir my appetite.

—First, I dive into the cutlet. A crisp bite unleashes a wave of savory juiciness. Then, I mix the egg with the dry curry and take a spoonful.

—Oh… this is something special. The spiciness of the dry curry blends perfectly with the creaminess of the egg, and the crispy cutlet adds a great crunch. The sharp spices gradually mellow into the smoothness of the egg, creating the perfect balance.

—The dry curry, egg, and cutlet harmonize together on one plate. With each bite, I discover something new. It’s a lavish, satisfying meal.

—Before I know it, the plate is empty.
I’ve been completely defeated by this perfect balance.

"Gochisousama deshita."

—This one plate has reminded me of the profound depth of Western cuisine.
